Way back in 2005, NOFX released a series of twelve 7" records, as "a year-long vinyl documentation of their songwriting process." Basically, you'd sign up to this "club," and get sent these singles, one a month. At least, that was how it was meant to work. Fat, being Fat, and NOFX, being NOFX, got incredibly behind on these, with the final December one being sent out in March the next year. Nevertheless, the music was still great, with an added bonus being that they were on coloured vinyl and limited to 3,000 copies (it was meant to be the first 3,000 on coloured with the rest on black, but not enough people signed up). The front covers were designed and sent in by fans, with the best ones being chosen to be on the record sleeves.
Unfortunately this was all before I was into record collecting, which is a pity, but also quite annoyingly means I now have to pay the ridiculous eBay prices for represses, let alone the originals. Even more annoyingly, each record had about ten variations: each original has a few label variations, then each repress has yet more. Obviously, non record-collectors won't really understand the obsession with collecting ten different copies of a record I'll probably only play once. Actually, I don't think anyone yet has collected all 7" Of The Month Club variations: two users on nofxwiki.net (the local hangout for us NOFX and record nerds - my username's wobgob) have come very close, but either it's never been done or someone's done it but have stayed in the shadows.
Most of the music featured on these 7"s were exclusive to the records. The majority were original NOFX tracks, but some covers were also included (The Dickies' Fan Mail, Vagina Dentata's Golden Boys). Some of the 26 songs featured throughout the year went on to be re-recorded and released on the extremely well-known Wolves In Wolves' Clothing, but the majority remain exclusive to the vinyl to this day (although watch out for CD bootlegs circulating).
So here's some of my favourites: the opener to the series; a comedic instrumental; a Dickies cover; and the closer, the original acoustic version of the popular The Man I Killed.
Note: these won't work for a bit (as of 16:08 GMT). By all means give them a click, but if unsuccessful come back in an hour.
NOFX - Insulted By Germans (Again) (mp3, 4.8mb)
NOFX - Fan Mail (Dickies cover) (mp3, 5.3mb)
NOFX - Arming The Proletariat With Potato Guns (mp3, 3.6mb)
NOFX - The Man I Killed (Original acoustic version) (mp3, 1.9mb)

. I'd be happy to feature your band! Just write me a quick note saying what type of music you play, maybe a link to your website/MySpace, and include a link to a few downloadable songs if you can (submissions without samples are usually disregarded).
