To clear things up, Saturday covers #21 was not removed by me or Jon; it was removed from Blogger for reasons I'm yet to discover. This was most likely due to complaints about one thing or another. Best not to question why.

The Gaslight Anthem are a four piece "punk" (I use the term loosely) band from the US, and have received fantastic commercial success with their album "The 59 Sound." I thought that I would take the time to discuss them, and their recent commercial success.
First impressions weren't great. The first track I listened to was "Great Expectations," which may be about the similarly titled novel, but as far as I'm aware the only comparison is the word "Estella" used once. Confusing. Anyway, the sound seemed to be kind of echoey, and everything seemed to be covered in reverb. I didn't think too much of it.
A second listen made me realise that, actually, the melodies and vocals and the simplicity of it was great songwriting and made me think: "Wow, they're actually pretty good." They didn't impess at first, but their songs are songs that you can listen to over and over again. Well, up to a point. But anyway, they're simple, but at the same time they're a bit different to a lot of the bands out there at the moment. The soul and blues infuences are a nice change, and generally a good listen, and definitely one of the best bands of that type (kind of modern soft-punk, as most stuff thats classified as that is just emo poo).
I recommend you get a couple of their songs (you might even want to pay for them...! Shock horror!). Though I don't really recommend you get a whole album, and don't get the stuff thats not on "The 59 Sound," because it's not good, and I'm not going to go any further into why, but just trust me on this. Okay, well it's not that bad, it's just not that good.
I don't really see the point in me uploading as all the stuff I've talked about is on their MySpace, and that can give you a good idea of what they sound like. But whatever, here it is.

. I'd be happy to feature your band! Just write me a quick note saying what type of music you play, maybe a link to your website/MySpace, and include a link to a few downloadable songs if you can (submissions without samples are usually disregarded).
