So last week I was unable to post the songs I really wanted to feature due to technical issues, but this week it's all been fixed. On with the show!

Actually, this week's song may cause a bit of controversy. It's often considered by many as a low point in Paul McCartney's career. That's right... We All Stand Together.
I don't really get how so many people can dislike this song. I don't want to sound too childish, but it's really pretty. I have fond memories of watching along with the accompanying Rupert clip, and I loved it back then. In fact, I still do. I suppose people only have the problem with it because it's Paul McCartney, famous rocker from The Beatles and Wings. But give him some slack, isn't he allowed to write a song for audiences other than yourselves? As a children's song, it's great - promoting unity with memorable muscial frogs is a fantastic idea! If you think this is the low point in his career, you obviously haven't heard his recent material. Come on, accept this song. Could you write anything this good?

The B-side to We All Stand Together is entitled "We All Stand Together (Humming Version)." You won't believe it, but it's actually the same song as is on the A-side... but hummed. It came as a shock to me too.
It's not all too bad, actually. It begins with a nice little ensemble playing a variation on the main theme, including French horn and trumpet solos. Then, apparently unrelated, it goes back to the main theme of the A-side. There's not much to say about it - it's the same tune, but hummed. The humming is obviously done by professionals, it's very elegant. This side also includes some flute features not heard on the other track. It's accompanied by an acoustic guitar rather than anything too fancy and orchestral, and quite disappointingly it doesn't feature any of the bass frogs which are so memorable on the A-side. Nonetheless, while the title may suggest it's almost the same as We All Stand Together, it's actually an entirely different re-recording, and well worth a listen if you like the song.

. I'd be happy to feature your band! Just write me a quick note saying what type of music you play, maybe a link to your website/MySpace, and include a link to a few downloadable songs if you can (submissions without samples are usually disregarded).
