I know no one who doesn't like Electric Light Orchestra. With songs like Livin' Thing and Telephone Line it's hard not to love them. And of course, we can't forget that song that cheers us all up when skies are grey... Mr. Blue Sky. Which, coincedentally, is todays A-side.
If you've never heard Mr. Blue Sky, not only have you been living under a rock all your life, but you've also been missing out. This happy little ditty is the song of the summer, no matter what Virgin Radio and Katy Perry tell me. Katy Perry's rubbish. (No offence to her or that girl she apparently kissed. It's all hyped up gossip if you ask me.)

Oh yeah. It's blue vinyl.

As we're instructed on the album version of Mr. Blue Sky, "Please turn me over." And what happens if we do? We get to the B-side, "One Summer Dream." It's a very traditional ELO track. It's got the nice little backing string section, it's got the flowing Jeff Lynne vocals... it's got everything ELO-based you could think of. It's not so much a sing-along track like the more well known songs by the Orchestra, but it's still a very good listen. It was actually originally included in the ELO album "Face The Music," and only a few years later stuck on the flip side of Mr. Blue Sky. What does that say about it? Good enough to release twice? It must be good.

. I'd be happy to feature your band! Just write me a quick note saying what type of music you play, maybe a link to your website/MySpace, and include a link to a few downloadable songs if you can (submissions without samples are usually disregarded).
