It's that time of the week again.

As a pop song, 99 Luftballons is great. It's very catchy, which is exactly what's needed for the pop charts. It's good as a pop song. Originally done in German as a war-protest song, it became such a hit that they made an English version as well.
Nena's performance isn't brilliant. I don't like Nena's voice, and it's just a bit boring to listen to. I'm not saying it's bad, I'm just saying it's not my favourite song ever. It's a very good composition, just not very well performed. Which is why I love Goldfinger's cover.
Goldfinger's version is a lot more exciting. The vocals are very well done, they've even done a verse in the original German. In Nena's English performance of the song, this verse didn't translate as well as the others, so Goldfinger decided to do it in the original German instead. Nice move. Overall, a lot better than Nena's version.
Have a nice Saturday (or what's left of it).

. I'd be happy to feature your band! Just write me a quick note saying what type of music you play, maybe a link to your website/MySpace, and include a link to a few downloadable songs if you can (submissions without samples are usually disregarded).
